Agartala–Kolkata Maitree Bus Service Resumes After 18 Months, Strengthening India–Bangladesh Connectivity

After a gap of 18 months, the Agartala–Kolkata Maitree International Bus Service has been resumed, bringing renewed momentum to people-to-people connectivity between India and Bangladesh.

The first bus departed from Kolkata on Monday and reached Agartala via Dhaka on Tuesday.

Passengers were warmly welcomed at the Agartala–Akhaura Integrated Check Post in the presence of Tripura Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury and senior officials.

Earlier, travelers had to cover nearly 1,650 kilometers via Guwahati.

Now, the distance has been reduced to just 620 kilometers through Bangladesh, saving time, cost and effort.

The service will operate three days a week from both Agartala and Kolkata. Plans are also underway to launch a direct Agartala–Dhaka bus service soon.

The minister said this service is not merely a transport link but a symbol of friendship, cooperation and mutual trust between the two nations.

Officials believe the resumption of this service will strengthen cultural, economic and diplomatic ties between India and Bangladesh.
