From Kolkata’s Brigade Parade Ground, the Prime Minister announced a series of major infrastructure initiatives for West Bengal aimed at strengthening connectivity and boosting economic activity in the state.
According to official information, the package includes projects worth over ₹18,000 crore covering sectors such as roads, railways, and port infrastructure. In total, around 12 key projects are part of this development push. While some projects were inaugurated, several others saw their foundation stones laid, and a few are already under implementation.
Among the major initiatives is the development and expansion of nearly 420 kilometres of national highways, including work related to the Kharagpur–Moregram Economic Corridor. The corridor is expected to significantly improve connectivity between North and South Bengal, facilitating faster movement of goods and passengers.
In the railway sector, multiple steps have been planned under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, including modernisation of several railway stations and improvements in rail connectivity across the region.
Efforts are also being made to strengthen maritime trade through modernisation of Haldia Dock and infrastructure upgrades at Kidderpore Dock, which are expected to improve cargo movement and logistics efficiency.
The Prime Minister said improved connectivity would create new opportunities for farmers, traders, students, and young entrepreneurs. He added that stronger infrastructure would also give a boost to tourism, local industries, and the service sector.
Highlighting Bengal’s historic role in shaping the nation’s progress, he expressed confidence that with modern infrastructure and better connectivity, the state could once again play a leading role in India’s development.
