Amid escalating tensions in West Asia, an attack on a commercial vessel has resulted in the death of two Indian sailors, while another Indian national remains missing. The development was confirmed on Wednesday by the spokesperson of India’s Ministry of External Affairs.
According to MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, the Indian nationals were working on board a commercial vessel when the attack took place. The casualties occurred during the assault on the ship. Several other Indian crew members who sustained injuries are currently undergoing treatment in hospitals across the Gulf region.
Officials from the Ministry of External Affairs stated that Indian diplomatic missions in the region are in constant contact with the injured nationals and are closely monitoring their condition. The families of the deceased have also been informed.
Meanwhile, authorities are continuing efforts to locate the missing Indian sailor in coordination with local officials and the concerned shipping company.
In a separate incident reported on Wednesday morning, another Indian national was injured in Dubai and is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital. The Indian Embassy in the United Arab Emirates is maintaining regular contact with him and monitoring his recovery.
The incident comes at a time when security concerns have been rising along key maritime routes in the region, particularly near the Strait of Hormuz, where several commercial vessels have reportedly faced attacks in recent weeks. However, no group or country has officially claimed responsibility for the latest attack so far.
In response to the situation, the Ministry of External Affairs has set up a special control room in New Delhi to assist families and provide updates regarding Indian nationals in West Asia. Officials said the facility is receiving numerous inquiries from people seeking information about the safety and whereabouts of their relatives working in the region.
