INDIA Alliance Writes to Chief Justice Over Election Concerns, Sparks Speculation of Opposition Unity
In a significant political development, the INDIA alliance has approached the Chief Justice of India, raising concerns over the country’s electoral process and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). A joint letter, signed by 23 political parties and one independent member, was submitted on Tuesday, marking a coordinated move by opposition forces.
What makes this development particularly noteworthy is the inclusion of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)—two parties that had recently distanced themselves from the INDIA alliance. Their participation has reignited speculation about a possible reconciliation and renewed unity within the विपक्ष bloc.
According to sources, the decision to write to the Chief Justice was taken during the INDIA alliance meeting held in New Delhi on June 8. While 21 parties attended that meeting, AAP and DMK had chosen to stay away due to ongoing political differences with the Congress.
AAP’s strained relationship with Congress had intensified after the Lok Sabha elections, eventually leading to a break. Similarly, the DMK had expressed displeasure following Congress’s alliance decisions in Tamil Nadu, further widening the rift within the opposition camp.
However, behind the scenes, senior leaders of the alliance reportedly made efforts to bridge these differences. After nearly three weeks of negotiations and political outreach, the opposition bloc managed to bring AAP and DMK on board for this joint initiative.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh confirmed the development through a social media post, stating that while the decision was originally taken by 21 parties, the final letter submitted to the Chief Justice carries the signatures of 23 parties and one independent member.
Trinamool Congress leader Derek O’Brien also amplified the message, highlighting the inclusion of AAP and DMK in the joint letter.
Political analysts believe that after facing setbacks in recent elections, opposition parties are now attempting to regroup and present a united front. The joint letter to the Chief Justice is being seen as an early indication of this possible realignment.
As the political landscape evolves, the coming weeks may determine whether this coordination translates into a stronger and more cohesive opposition alliance ahead of future electoral battles.
